After the war, women returned to their femininity. Glamour became popular and the 50’s look, with its painted pallor and graphically defined features, perpetuated the image of a woman as a domestic goddess. Women had gained their independence, but social pressures were forcing them back into the traditionally exclusive role of wife and mother.
